i loved "in a dark, dark room" and the "scary stories to tell in the dark" series as a kid. ironically some of those stories are too creepy for me to enjoy as adult 😅 however! i've just written an article about vampire mythology -- maybe something you'd be into.
Ahhh I had forgotten about this story!!! I feel like I read it in one of the many young adult style horror short story collections when I was a young teen. It was a black velvet ribbon one, and she tells him not to touch it, and eventually he can't stop himself from removing it. It really is one of those stories that stick with you for life - along with the one about the black horse that is rampaging around, and the man who puts a horseshoe on it and follows it only to find out it's the woman he's fallen in love with.
I always loved this story--so incredibly creepy! It reminds me, too, of Princess Langwidere in Ozma of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Another of my favorite eerie characters!

Vampire mythology, you say? Count me in!
Thanks for the history lesson. Love learning about origin stories!
